CONNECTICUT FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Interested in being a flag football referee for CT Flag?

CT Flag is always ready to welcome new officials to our family.  If you are 15 years of age or older, and posses the qualities listed below, we may have a job for you!!!

COMMUNICATION - This is one of THE most important qualities we look for.  Can you communicated with people, mainly adults?  Can you deal with coaches during a game?  Communication can be accomplished in many ways, and in most cases the situation will dictate the appropriate response (or non-response).  Communication also involves your body language and how you carry yourself.  The appropriate level of energy and visible engagement tells us that you are enjoying what you are doing and you WANT to be here.  Anything less than that often communicates a lack of interest in the game, which gives coaches, players and parents the impression that you are "going through the motions" and are not putting forth effort.

HUSTLE
- Since officiating is a game of angles and positioning, your physical effort during games will at times require you to run.  We need people willing to hustle to make sure they are in the proper position at the proper time.

JUDGMENT - Great judgment is a byproduct of effort and experience. It goes beyond the rule book and includes an almost instinctive ability to apply the critical principal of "advantage/disadvantage." Simply put, are you using good judgement in each and every situation.  This takes time, experience, and effort to get there.

CONSISTENCY - Young officials have more difficulty than consistency, mainly because they lack experience.  Everyone has some level of difficulty in this regard, especially with flag football.  Judgement calls are part of the game, and situations can vary from week to week, game to game, and play to play.  The key is to make the same calls consistently.  If a player or team believes an official is consistent, they will adjust to you accordingly.  Inconsistent decisions can trigger negative behavior and poor sportsmanship among players and invite criticism from coaches.

COURAGE. Regardless of the situation, personalities involved, pressures from the crowd or possible repercussions, great officials place fairness above all other concerns.

INTEGRITY - We look for people who are honest and unbiased when officiating games

COMMON SENSE. I’ve saved the best for last. Of the qualities discussed, common sense is the most important. That which is fair and right must take precedence throughout each game. Common sense ensures that fairness, understanding, and the best interests of the game are foremost in the mind of a great official. If you truly understand the spirit and intent of the rules, common sense will guide you well

If you believe that you possess these qualities, are dependable and interested in making some money working a few hours each weekend with the best youth flag football organization in the state, click the links below, fill out the form and we will contact you.  Once completed, send an email to info@ctflagfootball to let us know!

Thank you and we hope to see you on the field soon!
